The Presidential Technical Team investigating the on-going mass deaths in Kano, has revealed that the coronavirus might have been responsible for the recent spate of deaths in the state.

Nasiru Sani Gwarzo, the team leader of the PTT, confirmed this Sunday, while speaking with newsmen at the handing over of a Mobile Testing Centre, donated by Dangote Foundation, in Kano.

Gwarzo said that the committee was able to detect this as a result of the verbal autopsy on the dead persons.

He also said the on-going test carried out in regard to Covid-19 in the state indicates that the cause of most of the deaths was attributable to coronavirus.

He stated “Let me inform us that most of the deaths recorded of recent and test carried out showed that coronavirus was the cause.

"So, before the final report which would be ready in the next one week or few days, it is necessary for people of Kano to wake up from their slumber that this is a serious issue.

"We need to know what is happening. We are successful in identifying what the problems are and secondly we are happy on the level of cooperation the private sector and other stake holders. Many people have come out to support the state. We cannot expand our investigation until we are certain.

"We have five cogent reasons to say that the mass death recorded in Kano is associated with coronavirus."

There have been concerns about the  COVID-19 cases and the increasing deaths in the state.

President Buhari last week, gave a matching order to the Gwarzo-led Presidential Task Force to unravel the cause of the mysterious deaths in Kano and also to contain the spread of the virus in the state.
