Junior physicians fight back at Manhyia Hospital: "The doctor did nothing wrong!"

A doctor who had a heated phone conversation with a nurse was protected by the Junior Doctors' Association of Ghana.

The doctor's father, Alex Opoku-Mensah, is heard insulting the nurse in the leaked phone call.

On November 29, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMAAshanti )'s Region chapter demanded Mr. Opoku-resignation. Mensah He afterward expressed regret.

Medical students claim that the doctor did nothing improper.

“While we do not condone the actions of the father, it is imperative to set the records straight on the falsehood being peddled to bring the professional competence of the doctor into disrepute,” a statement issued on Tuesday said.

The statement, which was jointly signed by Ghana's Dr. Louisa A. Nkrumah, president of the Junior Doctors' Association, and Dr. Norbert Kipo, secretary, stated that the information circulated about the doctor and her alleged incorrect prescription "is untrue, according to the hospital management and records available."

"We, therefore, implore all media outlets to halt their coverage of the alleged incorrect prescription of medication and implore the general public to ignore such charges against the doctor," the statement reads.
