Over three hundred (300) people who were affected received free cataract surgery and free screening from the NGO.

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) from the USA, Himalayan Cataracts Project (HCP), together with Ghana Health Services and St. Mary's Hospital at Drobo in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region has organized a free cataract surgery and screening for the people in Drobo suffering from cataract eye problems.

In attendance are over three hundred (300) people who were affected and received free cataract surgery and free screening from the NGO. 

Speaking with Sorienews, Dr. James A. Addy the Country Director for HCP added that, a research conducted  by the Himalayan cataracts project (HCP) shows that, the majority of people  who are blind are  caused by cataracts with almost 54.8%  and the causes of cataracts are:

1. Throwing objects into someone's eyes can cause cataracts.

2. Diabetes can also cause cataracts.

3. B.P can also cause cataracts.

4. Walking through the scorching sun is one of the major causes of cataracts and wearing spectacles in a sun prevents a person from when contracting a cataract.

The Himalayan Cataracts Project (HCP) Team, Ghana Health Services, and St. Mary's Hospital first pay a courtesy call on the Omanhane of Drobo Traditional Council and Jaman South Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Andrew Bediako.

Nana kwarteng Afari ll Drobo Famanhene, on behalf of Omanhane of Drobo Traditional Council, commended the Himalayan cataracts project HCP, Ghana Health Services, and St. Mary's Hospital for organizing a free screening and surgery for the people with cataracts and said this timely intervention will bring relief to the people affected with cataracts.

Nana kwarteng Afari II again added that cataracts ararevery common in Jaman South Municipality and urged the Himalayan Cataracts Project HCP, Ghana Health Services, and St. Mary's Hospital to continue organizing such programs periodically to help reduce the number of affected people with cataracts in Jaman South  Municipality.

Hon. Andrew Bediako, the MCE for Jaman South also commended Himalayan Cataract Project HCP, Ghana Health Services, and St. Mary's Hospital for such a health program but urged the three hundred people (300) who have which have benefited from the free surgery and treatment to live a life that will help protect their eyes for their future.

Lastly s, some people who undergo free cataracts surgery successful thanked the Himalayan Cataract Project (HCP), Ghana Health Services, and St. Mary's Hospital for treating their eyes freely for them without paying any amount for the surgery and appeal to them to extend the program to other Districts and Municipalities in the Bono, Bono East, and  Ahafo Region because most of the people in these regions are being affected by cataracts eye problems.
