The officer in charge of the emergency unit at  Sampa Government Hospital in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region, Mr Issah Sumaila has attributed the recent increase in HIV/AIDS to stigmatization and discrimination against infected persons.

Speaking on Health Issues in the District,  Mr Issah Sumaila stated that “if the stigmatization and discrimination continue this way, the number of patients going for their Antiretroviral drugs will be very low due to fear of being stigmatized.

This can have a serious repercussion on the society as it will lead to an increase in the spread of the virus.

He, therefore, pleaded for an immediate end to this attitude so that people living with HIV /AIDS infection can access health care without shame. Antiretroviral drugs help to suppress the HIV virus, improve the immune system and also reduce the rate of the spread of the virus.
