The Vice President of Ghana Federation of People Living with Disability, Sirina Mahamudu, has appealed to the government to consider Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) when recruiting staff into the civil service.

She noted that members of the organization are usually ignored when they seek employment in the government sector and called for government intervention this year.

Persons living with disability over the years raised concerns over their neglect, which brought about the introduction of the disability act that called for the disbursement of five per cent of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) to them.

This disbursement has however been greeted with controversies, with members complaining of being cheated by the assemblies.

Madam Sirina reiterated the organization’s call on the government to this time around give attention to their request.

"We are expecting Persons With Disabilities to be involved in the new government under Nana Akufo Addo. We have qualified people who can work very hard for Ghana's benefit, which will also enable them to take care of their families.

"Apart from that, opportunities must be created for such, for instance, people living with disabilities could have been employed by government during the time of coronavirus where the making of sanitisers and nose masks became a reality in the country. Wea er capable so the leaders shouldn't abandon us."
