Inncentivize Youth Enterprises For Job Creation--Solomon Adjei Urges Government
Mr. Solomon Adjei
THE EXECUTIVE Director of Ghana Startup Network, Mr. Solomon Adjei, who is the brain behind the Youth Start-Up Awards has underscored the urgent need for government of Ghana to give incentives to youth enterprises.
This, he said will step-up the business to create employment opportunities for the unemployed teeming youth in the country.
Mr. Adjei made the disclosure last Friday, November 18, 2022, when he was speaking in an interview with journalists at the sidelines of the sixth in a series of the Youth Start-Up Awards ceremony held in Accra.
He admonished government to show real commitment to the creation of an enabling environment for youth businesses to thrive.
He explained that the award scheme is a unique platform for encouraging the youth to upscale their existing businesses while at the same time urging others to also give action on their ideas.
He further noted that when the measure is implemented, youth-headed enterprises will thrive.
Mr. Solomon Adjei believes that encouraging the youth to create their means of employment will serve a great deal of employment which will not put pressure on the government for employment.
Themed "Collaborate, Innovate and Invest For Greater Impact, he is upbeat the youth will take up the challenge of job creation even while in school.
While hailing the giant strides of youth enterprises, he, however, bemoaned the fact that registration of businesses has been bedeviled by "The who you know or through the connection man syndrome", a sad matter he said will not encourage the youth to venture into businesses.
" It is sad that before you even register your business, you would have started paying money to people without which your business will not be duly registered", he decried.
He intimated that the unfortunate practice is impeding the smooth running of businesses in the country despite the unique ideas the youth posses.
Regardless of the above shortcomings, Mr. Adjei believes that recognizing youth businesses will propel their businesses.
The award ceremony saw over 10 youth business leaders receiving various awards.
Reacting to the award, the overall winner, the Chief Executive Officer, Medpoint Pharmacy Limited,Mr. Eliphas Kwabena Agyeman intimated that their struggles had resulted in the award.
He further dedicated the award to the struggles of the relentedness of his workforce.
He said the award has urged them to do more than before and further pledge to win it for the second year running.
