Independent parliamentary candidate in the Asokwa Constituency, Hajia Fuseina Mahamadu is reported to have been attacked by people alleged to be followers of the New Patriotic Party, the chairman of the campaign team, Mr Francis Nyarko has revealed.

According to him, the incident unfolded on Tuesday evening in front of the family house of the Member of Parliament for Asokwa constituency, Hon Patricia Appiagyei whiles on their way to alight one of their campaign team members close to the place.

“We went to Oti to campaign and file our posters at Asokwa, Stadium close to Mckeown where Mama Pat’s family house is located so we decided to alight her. As we got close, we were stopped by a group of people who had gathered in front of Mama Pat’s family house so I told the driver not to stop due to political concerns.

“As the car stopped at the next house for the lady to get down, two guys came. One claimed to be the manager at the Asokwa health insurance office (Papa Yaw Asare Bediako John –NHIS Boss in the Asokwa Municipal) and he asked Hajia for her contact which she refused. He saw NPP coloured bracelets on her hand challenged her of the colours. He later questioned her for using the 4More4Nana slogan, an act he revealed as illegal.”

Mr Francis Nyarko narrated that there were a few exchanges of words but the deputy NHIS boss in the Municipal and another member left them and they attended to the settled lady.

He continued that as they turned their car around and got to where the group were gathered, the confrontations got severed which led to a pull of pistol by one of their members whiles the Asokwa NPP Women Organizer attacked the independent candidate in her van and ripped her bracelet.

"When our car got to where they were standing after alighting our member, they stopped us and the Asokwa women’s organizer begun throwing insult at Hajia," he continued.

"She destroyed her bracelet and the rest struck our car with blows. They warned us not to come around for campaign at Asokwa because it’s their territory.

“One guy drew a pistol to threaten Hajia and we were later asked to drive away."

He disclosed that the case has been reported at the Asokwa Police Station.

“We reported the case at the Police Station. I believe they mean evil against us and even threatened to beat the campaign member staying around the area. We all have our rights so why do Mama Pat's supporters have to attack us? Everyone should be careful whiles we campaign because had it been night, we wouldn’t have known what would happen. We believe justice will prevail as the case has been reported."

He, therefore, advised the incumbent New Patriotic Party leaders to counsel their supporters against violence and cautioned that if such is their approach to win the election, it could not end well for them on December 7.

“NPP should advise their supporters because if they will keep threatening other aspirants with a gun, then that will cause their loss. If NDC is accusing them of having given guns to their people, I believe it’s true from what I have seen.”

The Communication Team Manager, Rashid Moro testified that people engaged in the riot are known in Asokwa and shouldn’t have gotten themselves in such since they know better.

He condemned the actions of the Asokwa NPP Women’s Organizer, the Asokwa NADMO deputy Director and the NHIS Boss in the Asokwa Municipal.

“Should anything happen to Hajia1, we’ll hold Mama Pat’s followers for their disgusting actions towards the independent candidate,” he warned.
