Incumbent NPP MP Charles Acheampong Loses 7,040 Votes In Upper West Akim Against NDC's Darling Boy
election. The incumbent MP contesting on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) polled 21,573 votes of the total votes cast.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper West Akim Constituency of the Eastern Region, Honorable Charles Acheampong has suffered a heavy dip in votes of some 7,040 in the just ended 2024 parliamentary election.
The incumbent MP contesting on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) polled 15,711 votes of the total votes cast. He lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate (PC), Mr Owen Kwame Frimpong who garnered 22,751 votes.
This is a sharp drop from the NPP’s performance in 2020 when Honourable Acheampong garnered
27,527 votes whilst Mr Micheal Adu-se of the NDC polled 19,744 votes, Mr Baidoo Seth Nicholas got 464 votes.
The trend was similar in the presidential elections as the vice president and flagbearer of the NPP Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia also encountered an drop in votes.
In the certified results of the presidential election in the 2024 general elections, the Flagbearer of the NDC, H. E former President John Dramani Mahama polled 23,380 of the total valid votes whilst Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia garnered 13,612 votes. The difference is 9,768
After the announcement of the results Honourable Acheampong who was visibly in a subdued disposition walked off to his vehicle unwilling to speak to the media.
Charles Acheampong is a Ghanaian politician and member of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Lower West Akim Constituency in the Eastern Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party.
Honourable Acheampong who is currently a board member of the Ghana News Agency has assumed office as an elected MP in January 7, 2021.
However, the Lower West Akim Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Chief Executive Officer of the Darling Boy Fan Club, Mr Owen Kwame Frimpong, has won theLower West Akim parliamentary seat for the NDC in the first since 1992 in political history of the constituency.

The philanthropist secured 22,751 of the total valid votes cast against his main contender Honourable Charles Acheampong who polled a total of 15,711 votes.
Speaking in an interview with Soireenews.com, Mr Frimpong assured the constituents of the readiness to fulfill all the campaign promises he made to them, stressing that "I'm a doer, others are 'promisers.
He described the election as keen contest and expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people including the supporters and executives of the NDC in the are for their support and contributions toward his victory.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank for all for the support and trust placed in me.My victory belongs to everybody in Lower West Akim Constituency who believed in our bold and ambitious vision and joined us to work hardly and assiduously to it a reality.
Mr Frimpong assured the constituents to build a united, progressive Lower West Akim following his landmark victory, saying that l am going to be a father of all in my administration."
