Zinedine Zidane says he will not resign from his post as the boss of Real Madrid as his side's Champions League qualification hangs in the balance.

Los Blancos have suffered back to back defeats to Shakhtar Donetsk following Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to the Ukrainian side in the Champions League. The loss is also the second in the space of four days having been defeated by Alaves on Saturday.

The Frenchman believes he is still the right man to turn things around and leaving his job is no best solution.

"I'm not going to resign, [it'd be] no use," Zidane said in Kiev published by Marca.

"We were very good in the first half, but we were missing goals. We were pressing well, playing well... The ball didn't want to go in. We had chances, [we hit] the post... and then it got complicated.

"I'm strong and I'm going to give everything. I think we deserved to win. We had chances. We can't let our heads drop. When you have a bad run, you have to keep going.

"It's a bad run in terms of results, but we have to keep going. It was a 'final' today. We prepared for it well, but the ball didn't go in. We have a game to win and [let's] move on."

Real Madrid are third on seven points, levelled with Shakhtar separated by Monchengladbach on top of the table by a point after their 3-2 loss to inter Milan at home.

Zidane must win against the Germans in Matchday 6 at home to book a place in the knockout stages.

"I'm optimistic. It's a difficult moment, but we have to have character and pride," Zidane continued.

"Today's result is a shame because we didn't deserve it. We have to win the next game. We're going to believe and we're going to fight, I'm sure of it."
