Aggrieved youths of living in Akyem Afosu under the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area in the Birem North District of the Eastern Region have aised an alarm bell over the sinister plot haltched by some greedy sub-chiefs to install a rival chief in the area, since the legally, customarily, traditionally, genuinely and lawfully installed chief, Nana Kofi Owusu Amoh III, is alive reigning the throne.

They stressed that Nana Kofi Owusu Amoh III remains the chief of Akyem Afosu and provided documentary proof to back their claim that Nana Kofi Owusu Amoh III is still a chief who is performing the customs and traditions for the stool.

Addressing a crowded press conference held on Tuesday March 11, 2025, Mr Baffour Owusu Aquah on behalf of the youths in the area claimed that they had credible information that some greedy sub-chiefs and their followers are planning to install a rival chief to ascend the throne of the area, calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to, swiftly address the long-standing chieftaincy dispute.

They pointed out that any attempt by these greedy sub-chiefs to violate the existing court ruling to install another chief would create confusion, tension and insecurity in the area, stressing the for IGP to intervene quickly in the matter to call those greedy chiefs and they pay masters to order.

"We, the concerned youth and people of Akyem Afosu, are compelled to issue this urgent statement to alert the government, security agencies, and traditional authorities about an imminent crisis brewing in our community due to the reckless actions of certain greedy chiefs and self-seeking individuals " they noted.

For over a year and a half, according to the youths, Akyem Afosu has endured a chieftaincy dispute that was properly adjudicated in court.

They stated that the court ruling unequivocally affirmed Nana Kofi  Owusu Amoh III as the legitimate and rightful chief of Akyem Afosu, adding that since the verdict, the town has enjoyed peace, with residents abiding by the law and moving forward in unity.

"However, recent intelligence reveals that a group of greedy sub-chiefs, blinded by selfish interests and financial inducements, are orchestrating a dangerous plot to destabilize our community. Their intention is to unlawfully install another person as chief, in direct defiance of the court ruling.

"Even more alarming, these individuals have reportedly assembled armed mercenaries—so-called "macho men"—to violently impose their will on the people of Akyem Afosu. This reckless disregard for legal authority and public safety is an act of provocation that will not go unanswered," they noted.

They indicated that Akyem Afosu is not a lawless land where power can be bought with money or secured through intimidation.

They funed that "Any attempt to forcibly impose an illegitimate chief on this town will be met with an equally forceful resistance. If these traitorous individuals persist in their misguided agenda, they alone will bear the full consequences of their actions.

We are putting the following institutions and individuals on notice:

1. To the Minister for the Interior and the Inspector General of Police: This is an opportunity to demonstrate that law and order still exist in Ghana. Your silence or inaction will be interpreted as complicity in the chaos that may unfold. We demand immediate security reinforcement to prevent any unlawful installation from taking place.

2. To the National and Regional Houses of Chiefs: You are the custodians of traditional leadership, and we expect you to uphold the integrity of chieftaincy. It is unacceptable that a legitimate ruling can be so brazenly ignored. We demand that you speak out and take decisive action against those seeking to undermine the rule of law.

3. To Oseadeyo Dr. Frimpong Manso IV: You are widely known as a man of peace, and we expect you to distance yourself from this illegal agenda. Your silence, in the face of these claims that the conspirators act with your backing, is troubling. We urge you to publicly reaffirm your commitment to the court’s ruling and ensure that law and order prevail.

4. To the sub-chiefs and individuals behind this conspiracy: You are playing a dangerous game with fire, and we assure you that the flames will consume you if you proceed. The Akan adage states, "Se wodidi akyekyere, na woanhwere wo ti a, na wohwere wo nan,"meaning, "If you dine with the tortoise and fail to lose your head, you will surely lose your legs." The people of Akyem Afosu are watching, and we will not allow ourselves to be robbed of our peace and stability.  ACHIEVEMENT BY  NANA KOFI OWUSU AMOH:

THIS IS OUR FINAL WARNING

If any attempt is made this Thursday to impose a rival chief on Akyem Afosu, this town will descend into irreversible chaos. The consequences will be severe, and those responsible will have themselves to blame.

We are peaceful people who have shown restraint for far too long, but we will not allow our town to be turned into a battlefield due to the greed of a few. The time for action is now, and we urge the authorities to act before it is too late.
