The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George has dismissed assertion by the Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia that infrastructural projects under the erstwhile Mahama government were overpriced.

Sam George said the Vice President showed ‘dishonesty’ in his arguments and ‘infrastructural claims’.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia making a presentation at meeting said the current government has done more infrastructural projects at costs comparatively less than the erstwhile Mahama government.

According to the vice president, the cost of one interchange under the John Dramani Mahama administration is the cost of four interchanges under the Akufo-Addo administration.

The Vice President cited Tema, Pokuase and Obetsebi Lamptey interchanges in the Greater Accra Region and Tamale in the Northern Region, all at a total cost of $289 million comparing it with the $260 million Kwame Nkrumah Interchange.

But Sam George said, if the Vice President’s claim of overpriced projects were true, the NPP government would have prosecuted officials of the past Mahama government over the Kwame Nkrumah interchange project.

“I listened to Bawumia and I realised that he made a pedestrian argument where he compared the cost of one interchange to four interchanges. Let us agree for the purpose of this conversation that the interchange at the Kwame Nkrumah circle was overpriced. If he says it was overpriced, this government has been in power for three years and eight months. Why has he not prosecuted anyone for causing financial loss to the state? Again, we want to ask the question, how come the contractor who has executed the project is currently executing another project under this government?”

Addressing the Vice President’s assertion that, the NPP government had completed 8,746 projects, Sam George said most of the projects cited by the Dr Bawumia were either private initiatives or the previous government’s uncompleted projects.

“I have done some work on the website and if you look at the projects listed there, I can say the Vice President has shown dishonesty and it is something that is unbecoming of anyone who holds such a high office. There was a  plethora of either private initiatives or government work that had preceded this government being cited as government projects”  he said in interview on Accra based  Citi TV.
