Erling Haaland was simply inspired by Kylian Mbappe’s hat trick against Barcelona at the Camp Nou to sink Sevilla at home in the Champions League.

Borussia Dortmund won 3-2 at the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan on Wednesday night to go ahead on advantage in the round of 16 stage.

The Norwegian who watched the Paris Saint Germain hero's three goals against Ronald Koeman’s side said his incentive all about Mbappe's scoring prowess at Camp Nou.

"We scored three goals and that is important, but we will have to go out and attack [in the second leg]. We have to continue and be solid," he told UEFA.

"I like to play in the Champions League and I was inspired by the three goals that Mbappe scored at the Camp Nou. I thank him. It was a beautiful night."

Suso gave the hosts the lead in the first 7 minutes before Mahmoud Dahoud levelled the scores. Erling Haaland added two to go on break but Luuk de Jong's late strike has instigated hope for the Spanish club in the second leg.

Haaland believes the tie is still not finished and his side must step hard on the pedal in the second leg to qualify them to the quarter-finals of the competition.

"It wasn't good that we let in two goals, but it is good to score three away from home and take them with us. We had a good plan," Haaland said.

"Coach Terzic was very good and today I was talking with him a lot with him about the game. He said that today would be my day and that I would have my opportunities and I did.

"It was a really important victory," he said.

He won the Man of the Match accolade after the game.
