Mikel Arteta has said that Arsenal will decide Mesut Ozil’s future in the coming days regardless of whether the player plays or not, talkSPORTS reveals.

According to the manager, he has not regretted his decision to sideline the former Real Madrid midfielder and the new stage is about seeking what is best for the player.

Ozil’s current contract expires in June 2021 which gives him the right to speak with clubs interested in his services. He has not featured for the Gunners since March 7, 2020, having earlier rejected any further attempts by Arsenal to end his contract and take him off their wage bill after the fallout.

“We will decide what is happening in the next few days,” Arteta said.

Arteta continued: “A decision has to be made when you have to register or not register players, when you have to play them or not play them all the time.

“We know we have a really important player that is one of key players in the past few seasons for this football club. We had to make a decision, I had to make a decision. I made it. I knew the consequences of it.

Ozil is reported to be in talks with Fernabache and MLS side, DC United following the Gunners decision to exempt him out of the Europa and Premier League squads although he can face Newcastle United in the FA Cup third round on Saturday if selected.

“Now we will have to make another one in January and we will just put in the balance what is best thing for the club, what is the best thing for the team and what the intentions of the player are and try to find the right solution.”
