The impact of Framing Britney Spears, a collaborative New York Times and FX documentary on Hulu about the iconic pop singer, has been undeniable. Several celebrities, including Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Love Hewitt, have come forward with insight on their experiences of living life under the microscope of tabloids after watching director Samantha Stark’s acclaimed film.

And in an Instagram note to fans on Tuesday, Spears herself shared how she’s been feeling since the documentary premiered in February.

“My life has always been very speculated…watched…and judged really my whole life,” Spears said when sharing a video of herself dancing. Directly mentioning the Framing doc later in the caption, Spears revealed she hasn’t watched the film in its entirety, though she does feel “embarrassed” by what she’s seen.

“I didn’t watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in,” Spears wrote. “I cried for two weeks and well…I still cry sometimes!!!!”

In a Twitter Q&A in February, Stark and senior story editor Liz Day detailed their efforts in getting Spears to participate in the documentary.

“It’s very hard for journalists to interview Britney freely,” Day said, noting that the conditions of the widely condemned conservatorship facilitate a very tight circle around Spears. And while the Framing crew wasn’t shocked that their attempts in getting Spears’ direct participation proved unsuccessful, they were surprised by how such requests are handled.

“So, in some ways we weren’t surprised that we weren’t able to get her to participate but I think not even getting a response or knowing whether or not she fully, truly received the request was somewhat surprising,” Day added.

Earlier this month, Spears was reported to have filed an official petition seeking to have her father Jamie Spears removed as her conservator. The aim, per court documents, is to have him replaced with state-appointed conservator Jodi Montgomery.
