Yaa Sarpong has narrated how he created the Asomafo Band.

The legendary gospel legend recalled his desire to start a band in Ghana with little success.

He revealed that he was only able to start the band in Liberia.

“With a few people from different nationalities in Liberia, the Asomafo Band started,” He stated in an exclusive interview with Foster Romanus on the Late Night Celebrity Show on e.TV Ghana.

"I believe everyone I chose to join the band was sent to me by God and we’re all messengers of God. The only difference is that our ministry is to propagate the Gospel through music”.

“I am real with all of them and I come out clean always so they know how I work and how they can relate with me.”

Yaw Sarpong conceded that his success mostly comes from outside the country for that is where most of his support lies.

“Most of my songs were recorded outside the country in very good studios. Here, if I want to do any recording, I go to Sammy Helwani of Master Mix at Nungua. All these studios that I’ve had my recording have very clear sounds and as for Sammy Helwani, I can say he’s the best record engineer in the country," he said.

Although Ghanaian producers are doing well, he is not sure that there are a lot of them who will meet the standard of Sammy Helwani because he took his time to learn everything about the job, both in its theory and practical aspect.
