High exchange rate: Implement quota importation system to help salvage the challenges facing the cedi - Fahd Osman to Government

The immediate past Communications officer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Wenchi Constituency Fahd Osman is calling on the government to implement a quota importation system to save the cedi.

Mr. Fahd Osman said he gets worried whenever he comes across data on our imports and exports as an international marketing researcher. 

In as much as the managers of our economy are doing their possible best in dealing with the exchange rate situation, I think it is time we had a proper discussion on the possible factors causing the instantaneous depreciation of our currency as against other major currencies he reiterated.

In solving these challenges Mr. Osman wants Government as a matter of urgency to consider the following.

Review the benchmark value discount policy,

Implement a quota importation system, by cutting down the number of goods imported into the country,

Introduce special tariffs on some specific goods,

Regularized and monitor business activities of locals within our land-border towns,

Provide support to local industries in enhancing their capacities and competence in marching the needs of consumers and lastly encourage the exportation of semi-finish and finished products.

He believes these aforementioned measures and others will help salvage the challenges facing our currency and will further help in creating more job opportunities for our people.
