Students of Jantong Dashie Junior High School (JHS) in the Salaga North East district of the Savannah region are forced to stay at home after a heavy rainstorm destroyed their school building.

Soireenews visit to the community revealed that the students who suppose to be in school were not around whiles others followed their parents to farm.

According to information gathered, the school authorities have asked the school children to stay home and study due to the collapse of their classroom.

Speaking to some of the students, they revealed the situation as disheartening and spoke of their discomfort of staying home whiles their colleagues in different schools are learning.

"If you pick a book to learn your parents will ask you to go and farm. It will affect our studies badly because we are in our final year," one said.

Mr Zakaria Mumuni who is the headmaster of the school told Soireenews that a heavy rainstorm that occurred two weeks ripped off the zinc of the school and they were fortunate enough that no one was hurt.

He confirmed that students were asked to go home till a place of study is provided although he was much concerned about the final year students because whiles they are at home, they can't study that much.

The Unit Committee chairman Salifu Imoro told they have try all effort to speak with the rightful authorities about the current nature but all have proven futile.

They are therefore appealing to the Government, Non- Governmental Organisation, opinion leaders and stakeholders to come to the aid of the school.
