Chiefs and Residents in Effutuakwa, a suburb of Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region have complained bitterly that they are currently living in health danger which possibly or likely would make many of them contract communicable diseases in the coming days.

Chiefs and Residents in Effutuakwa, a suburb of Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region have complained bitterly that they are currently living in health danger which possibly or likely would make many of them contract communicable diseases in the coming days.
This situation, according to the visibly worried residents needs urgent measures to be taken by the state health regulatory institutions to avert the alarming situation.
According to the residents, they observed that the scores of mentally ill persons from the Mankessim always come to bath, defecate and wash their dirty clothes in the only source of drinking water for the people of a population of over 8000 in Effutuakwa.
The residents complained bitterly that they don't have any drinkable water in their area but only depend on stagnant water which they even shared with mentally ill persons and animals, the situation they lamented doesn't promote their good health.
Speaking in an interview with Soireenews.com, the worried residents revealed that the scores of pigs, dogs, cattle, goats, and other animals together with mentally ill persons shared the same water with them.
They complained that the entire community is having only two boreholes which were spoilt over three years ago, and several calls on the district
They said the water from the boreholes was salty which they can't use for any domestic chores.
They said because the water is salty, is not necessary for them to repairs the spoilt boreholes.
Against this backdrop, the residents appealed to the Member of Parliament for the Mfantseman Constituency, Honourable Ophelia Mensa Heyford, and the Municipal Chief Executive for Mfantseman Municipal Assembly, Mr. IkeLord Enu to come into their aid and assist them with pipe-borne water.
Some of the school children in the Effutuakwa D/A Basic School also showed their displeasure on the way their only source of drinking water is being used in the area.
According to the pupils, it is the same stagnant water that their teachers in the community use to drink, bathe, and wash their clothes.
The children pointed out that they used the same water to wash their hands as far as COVID 19 is concerned.
"It is sad every day you we mentally ill persons swimming and washing their dirty clothes in the same water we drink which is very dangerous to our lives. So we are calling on the government to support us get pipe-borne water to drink," the pupils stated.
For his part, the Assembly Member for the Effutuakwa Electoral Area, Mr. Ignacious Tetteh Both said that the community was having two boreholes that were salty but had spoilt longtime.
"And as at now, they don't have any option than to depend on stagnant water in the which they shared with mentally ill persons and animals.
In this regard, the Assemblymember appealed to the government and Non-Governmental Organizations NGOs to go and help them get drinking water.
Mr. Botah stressed the urgent need for the Ghana Water Company GWCL to come to their aid.
