A group of scientists from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUT) has disclosed that traces of Genetically modified organisms(GMO) have been identified in most watermelons found in the Ashanti Region.

Given warning consumers of the regular consumption of the same could be injurious.
According to the Scientists, the regular consumption of the products could render the consumer negative effects of GMOs.

The Scientists further observed that the consumption of genetically modified organisms has adverse health effects on the individual and animals from banned pesticides that must have been smuggled into the country.
Soireenews.com has learned that the said watermelons were brought from Burkina Faso where there have not been any definite directives on the GMOs.
This portal can also report that while Ghana solely relied on rain-fed agriculture, the Burkinabees practice extensive irrigation hence, the availability of the product during Ghana's lean season.

The findings, according to the group of scientists, show unacceptable levels of pesticide residues in most of the fruits on the market in the Ashanti region. 
The banned pesticides are known as Organochlorine, of which DDT and HCH and their components,  have been banned in Ghana for agricultural use including Organochlorine comprising DDT and HCH.

However, information indicates that the banned chemicals are wildly being used in many developing countries.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the  Chief Executive Officer(CEO), BO Regenerative Medical Diagnostic Specialist Clinic, Oshiuman, California Junction, Pokuase, Dr. Borneges Quarshie Nkosana Nartey who revealed that 70% and 50% of premature deaths in both females and males respectively accounts for the consumption of GMOs products.
He explained that genetically modified organisms which are bacteria mixed with plant genes are bacteria possess a high potential of causing cancer.

He said that research conducted by his outfit has revealed that GMOs genes that have gone bad were traced.
Dr. Nartey further disclosed that the cancerous nature of most imported foods must inform the government's decision to enact a legislative Instrument(LI) to ban the same and which he said would empower local producers to produce otherwise imported products.
Dr. Nartey added that the consumption of GMO food products causes toxicity, and genetically engineered foods are inherently unstable.
He said they cause allergic reactions, cause antibiotic resistance, ssuppressesImmuno causes loss of nutrients as well as cause cancer.
He said that a bold from the government would aid in safeguarding the citizenry hence the urgent need for government to act.
