Hawkers at the Kasoa toll booth are disgruntled about the closure of toll booths, following the scrapping of road tolls by government. The Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta on Wednesday stated this in his presentation of the 2022 budget in parliament.

Shortly after the Budget presentation, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, quickly issued a letter instructing the cessation of all road tolls effective Thursday, 18th November, 2021.

Toll booths attendants and hawkers are at the verge of losing their livelihoods. They tell Soireenews that they cannot challenge government’s directive but can only plead with the government to create new jobs for them else they will throng the streets to beg for alms.

The traders who used to sell plantain chips, water, bread, drinks and more at the toll booth are threatening to vote against NPPin the 2024 elections if he government fails to intervene.
