Citizens of Guinea are in jubilant moods following the dethronement of their President, Alpha Condé from office.

Lieutenant-Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, the head of Guinea's Coup army took over the country on Sunday following the government's failure to take responsibility towards the people of Guinea.

Straight after meeting the ex-ministers in President Alpha Condé's government, the coup leader Col Mamady Doumbouya drove around Guinea's capital, Conakry as people were seen jubilating like mad.

They were just happy, BBC reported that some people undressed and shouted, "Doumbouya, Doumbouya, Doumbouya" and "freedom, freedom, freedom".

The jubilation was a demonstration of how much people were happy that Alpha Condé has been removed from power.

According to Mamoudou Nagnalen Barry, who is a founding member of the opposition FNDC, speaking on BBC's Newsday programme, he expressed that the downfall of President Alpha Condé is a new dawn for Guinea’s progress.

I'm sadly happy. We don't want to be happy with a coup but in certain circumstances like the one in Guinea now we will say we are really happy with what is happening because, without that, the country would be stuck in an endless [situation] of one person who wants to stay in power forever.

"I think we are having more hope... we all know deep down inside sadly this coup is not that bad."

But he added that the opposition now needs to be vigilant and keep an eye on the coup leaders.
