Pep Guardiola has dismissed that Bayern Munich stands a chance of winning the Champions League than his side, who are not regular contestants even in the semifinals of the competition.

Manchester City were considered favourites lasts season but succumbed to a 3-1 loss to Olympique Lyon in the quarter-finals of the one-legged affair at Lisbon.

The Premier League club head into the second leg of the quarter-finals of the competition with a 2-0 advantage over Borussia Monchengladbach, a victory which was City's 19th in a row in all competitions as they look to challenge both domestically and in Europe once more.

Asked whether his team are favourites to win the competition, the manager said, "When I see Bayern Munich I don't think we are favourites. My target is West Ham in three days.

"If people say we are favourites, we have to accept it, but a team who, in their whole history, has been to a semi-final once? OK, they say it, we have to accept it."

Guardiola praised his side for their attacking prowess but was much concerned for their defensive brilliance which has earned them a 12th successive away win setting a new English top-flight record.

“That's the reason why we are winning 19 games in a row, just one shot on target is because we make an incredible effort upfront.

“The same process when they create chances, Football is not attack and defence it’s all together.

“Without good players we can't do it. The players are fantastic.

“I have a fantastic relationship with them - we will enjoy the night with some good food and then think about West Ham – that’s all we are thinking about now.”
