The Ghana Tourism Authority has commenced a 2- day training programme for 100 tourism industry practitioners across the Country both in-person and virtual at the Accra Tourism Information Centre (ATIC) on Tuesday, 5th October 2021.

The participants include GTA staff in all the regional offices, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and staff from the sister agencies under the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture. These include  Ghana Museums and Monuments  Board, Creative Arts Council among others.

The training programme which falls under the tourism component of the government's 'Ghana Cares (Obaatanpa)' initiative is to expose the participants to product development, project management, community engagement, feasibility studies and viability of projects.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief  Executive Officer of GTA, Mr Akwasi Agyeman said the training programme has become necessary because like every human being, the tourism and hospitality industry go through a cycle, and therefore the time has come to equip industry practitioners with new knowledge to be able to educate owners of tourism facilities to brainstorm and come up with innovative ideas to make their facilities attractive to visitors.

This he told will help create more jobs and income for their communities.

The  Ghana Cares project will tackle sector skills revitalization, address the low quality of tourism assets, enhance marketing and branding of tourism and help reduce other high costs of doing business.
