The Ghana Poultry Project (GPP) has trained some youth who have zeal in poultry farming and want to venture into its modern and globally accepted trends.

The program was also aimed at helping young people to access the training and necessary information to help them engage in productive and sustainable business.

Mr. Edward Appiah, the acting Regional Coordinator of GPP for Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions, disclosed that the program, dubbed Mentorship boot camp program, “seeks to enhance the technical skills of the youth through on-farm and industrial training opportunities to help them to expand their access to resources for more opportunities to succeed”.

He said the three-day training program was aimed at equipping the youth with the knowledge, skills, and networks they need to succeed as poultry entrepreneurs.

The regional coordinator noted that such opportunities would create viable career pathways for the youth in poultry by enhancing their chances of economic prosperity and the nation’s food security efforts and also reducing the unemployment in the country.

Mr. Appiah added the youth who received the training were expected to utilize their experience well within the poultry value chain to help reduce unemployment in the region and the country at large.

He indicated that after the training 10 of the youth would be selected and attached to well establish poultry farms to acquire further training. Five of them will be selected and equipped with the necessary resources to establish their own businesses, the regional coordinator added.
