Govt Pledges To Fight Inefficiencies And Corruption In Land Administration---Lands Minister Declares

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Ellembele Constituency in the Western Region, Honourable Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has pledged collaboration with workers of the Lands Commission to fight inefficiencies and corruption in the land administration system in the country.

The Minister acknowledged the public’s perception of the Lands Commission as one of the most corrupt institutions in Ghana, but expressed his disagreement with this notion.
Urging staff members to change their attitude towards work with a renewed dedications to ensure work efficiency at the Land Commission.
"This is where you work. You wake up everyday and come here where you spend more time than your house so let's work with integrity and dedication and I believe we will be able make it better", the Minister urged thevwirkers.
Speaking further, Honourable Armah-Kofi Buah
highlighted the challenges facing the commission including manual processes and inefficiencies in land administration.
The sector minister revealed that 80-90% of the commission's work is still conducted manually, resulting in significant delays and inefficiencies.
To address these challenges, he outlined key priorities, including securing USA $165 million to comprehensively map Ghana's lands digitally,
implementing full digitalization of documentation and processes.
He emphasized the need for modernization and improved service delivery at the Lands Commission.
He stated that digital mapping would enable quick identification of land locations, reduce paperwork, and increase government revenue.
The Minister expressed his commitment to working with the Lands Commission to implement digital mapping and improve the sector’s efficiency.
He believes that this initiative will benefit both the government and the public, and is eager to explore ways to make it a reality.
He emphasized the importance of understanding the core functions of the Lands Commission and its impact on Ghanaians.
He charged the staff of the Lands Commission
to devise pragmatic measures to regularize customary lands in compliance with existing laws and also improving transparency and efficiency within the commission
The minister emphasized the potential benefits of digital transformation, including,faster service delivery, increased government revenue and enhanced public trust in the Lands Commission.
Hon.Armah Kofi- Buah assured that the government of Ghana is committed to comprehensive institutional reform.
"By the time we finish, the Lands Commission will be the most honest place to work." This visit marks a significant step towards modernizing land administration in Ghana, with the potential to dramatically improve service quality and operational efficiency.
The Minister lamented the current manual system’s limitations, citing the lengthy process of surveying and mapping land, which can take hours or even days.
The Lands Commission plays a crucial role in managing Ghana’s land resources. However, the current manual system has been criticized for its inefficiencies and vulnerabilities to corruption.
The Minister’s initiative aims to address these pessing challenges and bring the land sector into the 21st century.
