Government urged to construct dual-carriage highways to reduce accidents

The government has been urged to construct more dual carriageways instead of single-lane roads to reduce accidents.

The Chairman of the Berekum Vulcanizers Association Ghana Master Ali Haruna has appealed to the Government to ensure standards were met as single-lane roads had been identified as the cause of many road crashes.

He noted that to prevent accidents that result from a head-on collision, the government should consider the dualization of all existing highways to ease the transportation of goods across the country to boost economic activities.

He advised drivers to be extra careful while driving. He said drivers rushed for passengers without proper observation of road traffic rules and regulations.

He expressed worry over road crashes because wrongful attitudes and mistakes of drivers led to the loss of human lives.

He urged drivers to avoid overtaking, speeding, and overloading, adding that the drivers should regularly maintain their vehicles to ensure that their cars are roadworthy to guarantee the safety of the passengers.

He, however, advised vulcanizers to provide the right measurement of tires to prevent accidents that could be avoided.

He called on the government to support members of the Ghana Vulcanizers Association with the necessary equipment to enhance their work.
