The Eastern Regional Manager of Globacom Ghana Telecommunication Company has been arrested by Police for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old Junior High School student in Koforidua -Asokore SDA Demonstration School.

The Regional Manager, Awoseni Akinyemi, age 30, who is married with children in Nigerian, allegedly had sexual intercourse with the victim who is a JHS 2 student three times in his house at Abrewa-Nkwata, a suburb of Koforidua and gave her contraceptive each time he had sex to prevent pregnancy, according to the victim.

He was arrested in front of Glo office in Koforidua after Police CID officials hid behind the victim to call the suspect on phone under the pretense that she needed money to buy some items from the market.

According to the police prosecutor, Chief Inspector Bernard Annor, the victim stays with the mother in Koforidua – Effiduase, while the father works as Manager of a Fuel Station in Tema.

"On July 9, 2021, the father of the victim came to Koforidua quietly based on information that a man picks the daughter with his private car after closing from school almost every day to an unknown destination".

"Fortunately for the Glo regional boss, on that particular day, the Regional Manager of Glo Ghana did not show up to pick the girl but the father found Lydia’s emergency contraceptive in the school bag of the victim".

"Upon interrogation, the victim confided in the father, adding that the accused met her at Koforidua -Asokore sometime in June 2021, which they became friends".

"She said the accused invited her to his house at Abrewa – Nkwanta a suburb of Koforidua three times which whenever she went, the accused forcibly had Sexual intercourse with her and gave her Lydia contraceptive after each sexual intercourse".

"The father of the victim reported the case to the Eastern Regional Office of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVSSU) which a medical report form was issued to the victim".

"Police subsequently arrested the Manager who admitted the offence but said the victim visited him twice and he had consensual sexual intercourse with her only during her first visit".

He "told the investigators, that he gave the contraceptive to her to prevent pregnancy".

The accused was therefore arranged before Koforidua Circuit court “B” on Monday, July 19, 2021, and charged for defilement.

Chief Inspector Bernard Annor, prayed, the court remand the accused person for investigations to be continued.

The Court Presided by Her Honour Mercy Addei Kotei upheld the plea by the prosecutor and subsequently remanded the accused person to reappear before the court on July 26, 2021.
