The Regional Coordinating Council Director of the Upper West Region, Mr Peter Maala has admonished Government Institutions to collaborate to give the region a phase lift.

He said Urban Roads Department, Parks and Gardens, and the Environment Protection Agency should initiate a move in beautifying the Capital of the Upper West Region, Wa, in other to make it appealing.

According to him, the ceremonial street of the capital should be attractive to first-time visitors to the region.

He made the pronouncement at the 2021 World Environment Day Celebration in Wa over the weekends.

The day is set aside to create awareness on Marine pollution, overpopulation and global warming, this year's celebration was under the theme 'Ecosystem Restoration as Government Quest in Restoring the Vegetative Cover and some of the Water Bodies'.

The Upper West Regional Minister Dr Hafiz Bin Sali Said the Ecosystem Restoration is very important since it promotes various food chains and food webs as well as controlling the essential ecological process.

He mentioned that Government has taken the lead in fighting against illegal logging and mining, adding that the Akufo Addo government is embarking on planting 5million trees in Ghana on green Ghana day, which is scheduled to come on June 11th, 2021.

He however admonished the public to protect and preserve the few trees left at the various communities.

"The impact of deforestation is caused by felling of trees for lumber, commercial charcoal production, and mining activities, the situation is evident in the current climate change as we are witnessing today".

He, therefore, appealed to Chiefs and the people of the Upper West Region to take steps in protecting the environment and restore the depleted vegetative cover, and support the government in planting more trees.
