Sub-chiefs in New Juaben Traditional Council on Friday, July 30, 2021, were allegedly forced to invoke curses on themselves by Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Professor Emeritus Oti Boateng over Ghc2,000 bribe allegation.

Interestingly, before the commencement of the traditional council meeting, Omanhene is said to have raised serious concern about an allegation that he took Ghc2000 and two schnapps bribe from the bereaved family of the late Chief of Suhyen and the Suhyen traditional council before accepting their official announcement of the late chief ancestors' journey.

The visibly upset Daasebre Oti Boateng accused some of the sub-chiefs of spreading the baseless allegation to tarnish his image.

He clashed with the Chief of Suhyen Okoawia Dwumoh Baabu II when he said the statement by the Omanhene was hearsay, and that he has not been able to point out the person he claims to spread the falsehood.

All the sub-chiefs were forcefully obliged to drink from “Abonsam Buoso “which traditionally symbolizes a curse and bad omen to befall anyone found guilty of the act.

The Kontihene of New Juaben, Barfuor Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng said, "the action by the Omanhene was shameful and disrespectful to the sub-chiefs".

“Forcing Nananom present at today’s Traditional Council meeting to drink in turns portions of schnapps which was offered in libation on the “Abonsam Buoso” is a primitive method of determining Nananom’s guilt or innocence of divulging information,” he said.

Baffour Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng added, “By so doing, Nananom were subjected to dangerous, and painful tests, believed to be under divine control, so that those who would refuse to drink would then be pronounced guilty of passing information to Baffour Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng, Kontihene of New Juaben. This is a criminal practice in the laws of Ghana.

"Unfortunately, I am told, all Nananom present allowed themselves to be treated in this inhumane manner. What a shame!!! Oh New Juaben Traditional Council”.
