Gang jailed for rape of British volunteers in Ghana

For robbing and raping some British volunteers at gunpoint, a trio from Ghana was given a total prison term of 73 years.

The three had entered pleas of guilty to all counts of conspiracy, robbery, rape, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Each of them was given a 25-year maximum prison term by a high court in Accra.

The prisoners will work diligently to complete their jail terms, according to Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh.

In December 2018, the three were accused of committing the offenses at a guest home.

They were apprehended after being recognized on video from an ATM where they had gone to use bank cards they had stolen from the victims to extract cash.

After triangulating one of their phones, the police located them.

The third suspect, who the government claims has a Nigerian passport, attempted to flee to that country but was eventually extradited to Ghana for trial.
