Residents of kokoteasua, have cautioned AngloGold Ashanti to halt its operations at the KTS Tailings site and address their concerns

Residents of kokoteasua, a community in the Obuasi municipality of the Ashanti region have cautioned AngloGold Ashanti to halt its operations at the KTS Tailings site and address their concerns before proceeding with its activities.

Residents say, the mine about 30 years ago dumped its Tailings in the community, which as a result has imposed a lot of diseases on them.

The community in recent engagement with the mine demanded the building of a clinic, palace, and the construction of an internal road that links KTS to Sennet as compensation for suffering from the dumped tailings which had affected residents negatively for the past years.

But, the mine has proceeded with digging the tailings without the fulfillment of the resident's demands.

However, these have generated heat in the community, the angry residents have given the mine a 48-hour ultimatum to fulfill their demand else they will physically halt their ongoing activities on the Tailing site.

They made these known to Soireenews

Reacting to the resident's concern, Nana Abena Sarfoah, Akrokeri Chidomhemaa, and the Queen mother of the community have confirmed having a meeting with AGA in which the mine promised to address their demands before proceeding with its activities within the community.

She called on the mine to address the concerns of the youth to avert unforeseen circumstances.
