Foreign Affairs Ministry Begins Investigations into the Demolition of Nigerian High Commissioner’s Residence

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has launched investigation into the demolition of the Nigerian High Commissioner’s Residence in Accra, by some armed men.

According to the statement from the Ministry today [June 21, 2020], the circumstance under which demolition occurred “is a breach of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (VCDR, 1961)

Therefore,”investigations are ongoing to unravel the facts of the matter and bring the perpetrators to book. Meanwhile, the government of Ghana has beefed up security at the said facility and the situation is under control.”

The Ministry further assured the diplomatic community that the government will not relent on its efforts to “guarantee the safety of Members of the Diplomatic Corps in Ghana.”

The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Okudzeto Ablakwa had earlier condemned demolition and called for immediate action to resolve the matter
