Food and Drug Authority (FDA) to Burn Unwholesome Products Worth ThousandsWesternna Cedis in Western North Region.

The Food and Drug Authority in the Western North Region has destroyed unwholesome products worth over a thousand Ghana cedis at Sehwi Wiawso.

The exercise by the authority which is usually carried out yearly to protect consumers from purchasing unwholesome products and also to prevent the potential re-entry of these unwholesome products from the supply chain into the markets has been destroyed.

As a result, several unwholesome products are usually confiscated from the markets and destroyed to serve as a detriment to others.

The Western North Department of the Food and Drug Authority has been able to confiscate some unwholesome products from Sehwi Wiawso, Asawinso, Bibiani and others valued one hundred and twenty-four thousand two hundred and seventy-one cedis (124,271.00) from some markets in the Western North Region.

Western North Regional Managing Director of FDA, Albert Ankomah emphasized that the goal of the exercise seeks to rid the market of expired, counterfeit, contaminated and all kinds of unwholesome products from the market.

The Managing Director explained that one of the reasons his outfit usually burns unwholesome products was to serve as a deterrent to actors involved in the distribution and production of such products.

He, therefore, encouraged the public to volunteer information about unwholesome products to his outfit as that will help FDA to achieve its prime objective which is geared toward assuring safe food, drugs, and all other regulated products in Ghana.
