Flaunters on the ban on game meat could face Jail term - BNPWD

The Assistant Manager for Bui National Park Wildlife Division (BNPWD) Mr Gilbert Asiama-Antwi has reiterated that there is a ban on hunting from August 1 ending December 1st 2021 to ensure the safety of wildlife.

He stressed that culprits who will flaunt the directive will face a one month to three years jail term based on the prescription of the judge.

He was speaking on the ban on hunting for wildlife by the forestry commission with SoireeNews saying, the directive will help create an enabling environment for the animals to reproduce in their fertile season which starts from August to December.

He added that there will be roadblocks to conduct a serious search to make sure people do not smuggle animals with the exception of grass cutter from the wildlife division.

He added that most Ghanaians do not know the importance of games thinking the only purpose is to be used as food, forgetting they also serve as a tourist attraction and medical testing, hence the need for such directives.

He was however quick to add that the Bui National Park Wildlife Division is embarking on education to create the understanding between the citizenry to make the fight easier for all.
