The Obuasi Police Commander has disclosed that Opinion leaders are undermining their work with pleadings anytime a galamseyer is arrested.

The Obuasi Police Command upon a tipoff has arrested five illegal miners at Buabenso near Kubikonto, a community in the Akrofuom District on June 18, 2021.

The suspects are Micheal Morkli 32, Ofori Kpodo 28, Emmanuel Vidogo18, Eric Ahey 40 and Bright were arrested by the operation team respectfully.

The fight against Illegal mining has been a hard nut to crack by the Ghanaian government despite numerous measures put up to end the menace. Galamseyers keep adopting new strategies to defy the laws of the land supervised by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources yet the security service is up and doing making sure the laws are acknowledged.

Speaking to the Obuasi Police Commander, DSP Martin Assenso who confirmed the case to Soireenews said, the suspect were sent immediately after their arrest to the Fomena Magistrate court and were remanded into police custody to re-appear before the court on 23 June 2021.

He added that the fight against illegal mining has been tough due to the fact that opinion leaders always come to plea for suspects release. He took the opportunity by sending a  warning to leaders to allow the law to operate when one is been involved in galamsey.
