Speaking in an interview some of the eyewitnesses and the victims explained that, the residents did their best out of the unskilled approach to put out the fire because several calls to the Wassa East district fire service proved futile.

The fire service personnel arrived late from Wassa Gold Star Ltd after the disaster had caused damage to lives and properties.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but efforts are underway to trace the cause of the fire that has destroyed many properties.

Meanwhile, the Wassa East District Fire Commander DO2 Alex Appiah Dankwa has admitted that they received a distress call from the assemblyman of the AAtikuelectoral area about the incident but they had to drive for about 2 hours from Daboase to Wassa AAtikuwhere the incident occurred so they also contacted the Twifo Praso fire station but unfortunately, they were also combating similar incident so both fire stations could not attend to find a solution to the problem.

He, therefore, appealed for an establishment of a fire station at Atiku to deal with fire situations in the area since the nearest fire station is located at Daboase which is two hours drive to the community.
