Finland returns Namibia's historical sacred stones

According to President Hage Geingob, those who have "stolen things from Africa" should use the return of the stone as an example.

Finland returns Namibia's historical sacred stones

Two priceless historical stone fragments that were stolen by Finnish missionaries during the colonial era have been returned by Finland.

The stones were from Ondonga, a former Ovambo kingdom located in what is now northern Namibia.

Jukka Salovaara, deputy minister of foreign affairs for Finland, presented the pieces to Anna Nghipondoka, minister of education, arts, and culture for Namibia, on Thursday.

According to local media, they will be preserved at the Namibian National Museum and eventually returned to the Ondonga traditional community.

The so-called "Ondonga Power Stone" is not only important to the Ondonga community, but also a part of its identity and history, according to visiting Finnish President Sauli Niinistö.
