FGR Bogoso Prestea Mine hot again as Residents threaten Naked Demo against the Company

Thousands of residents, particularly aggrieved youths in Prestea and Mbease Bondaye Electoral Areas in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region are appealing to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to immediately call the Future Global Resources (FGR) Bogoso Prestea Mineto order or face a naked demonstration.

According to the residents, the FGR  Bogoso Prestea Mine, formerly known as Golden Star Bogoso Prestea Limited (GSBPL), which owns and operates the Bogoso/Prestea gold mining and processing operations in Bogoso, has failed to heed their numerous warnings to stop the company of using its heavy haulage trucks on the new inner roads constructed within the area.

They pointed out that their advice and warnings have fallen on the deaf ears of the drivers of the company, making them also write several petitions to the company in this regard.

They pointed out that the FGR Bogoso Prestea Mine has designated haulage roads within the Prestea/Bogosso community where they usually fare to their mining concession but the drivers of the company have chosen to use their newly constructed roads, making their roads deteriorate at a fast pace.

The resident's decision to protest against the company is also attributed to the fact that the movement of the haulage trucks of the company on the bridge of the River Ankobra in Prestea is posing grave danger to the bridge which is on the verge to collapse.

The residents also complained bitterly about the dust that clouds the Prestea, Bogoso and Himan communities, due to the movements of the company's haulage trucks.

This, they stressed has informed their decision to intend to demonstrate to register their displeasure about the pressing issues which are currently affecting their living conditions in the area.

The aggrieved residents are reluctant to rescind their decision although the Assembly members of the Prestea and Mbease Bondaye Electoral Areas including some government appointees of the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly had intervened by advising the residents.

The various leaderships of the town who intervened in the issue in the persons of the Assemblymember for Himan Electoral Area, Nana Abroso Bakoh, Assembly Member for Number Three Electoral Area, Richard Tetteh.

The other personalities include the Assemblymember for Anfengya Nakaba Electoral Area, Hon Shuaib Dimbie, Chairman of Prestea Urban Council, Mr Abraham Ayepah, Okoh Barimah, government appointee of the Assembly, Mr Emmanuel Kwesi Arthur and Assemblymember for Kru Town Electoral, Francis Asma assembly member for Bondaye, who doubles as the Presiding Member for the Assembly, and Francis Adokoh assembly member for Ankobra Electoral area.

This notwithstanding, the development has created tension in the area.

Speaking in an interview, the residents stated that since the company has started operation in the area, it failed to reshape the various roads within the area and that they cannot sit unconcerned for the company to use their trucks to destroy their newly constructed roads.
