Farmers and Fulani clash

There have been renewed clashes at Afram Plains South as four persons have allegedly been shot between farmers and Fulani herdsmen at Salamkope, near Gudupe village in Afram Plains South District of the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Closed Sources indicates that ten (10) cattle were reportedly shot and killed, whilst dozens have severely sustained injuries.

The renewed clashes were triggered after the residents accused the herdsmen of destroying their crops and water bodies in the community.

According to Donkokrom Fulani chief, Idrisa Sambo Jallo, "the incident occurred over the weekend and has been reported to the police but no action has been taken yet".

He opined "the assailants attacked the Fulani herdsmen with guns and machetes, wounding three and killing one person".

The statement continued, "three of the victims are currently in a critical condition and currently on admissions at Donkokrom Presbyterian Hospital".

It has been established, that about 18 homes were also burnt into ashes, all the cows shot were allegedly stolen whilst the alleged deceased herdsman is nowhere to be found, according to some residents.

The spokesperson for the Council of Fulani Chiefs, Sulemana Abdulai vehemently accused the lackadaisical approach by the police force of Afram Plains whenever the Fulani Community comes under attack, adding that the police is the cause of these clashes as they are always obliged to do arrests of culprits.
