Fally Ipupa offers condolences after tragic concert

Fally Ipupa, a musician from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, extended his sympathies to the families of the 11 concertgoers who died on Saturday when he was performing in Kinshasa's biggest stadium.

Beyond its 80,000 capacity, the stadium was crowded; one witness claimed that even the hallways were congested.

According to reports, there were much more people than the security personnel could handle.

Among those deceased were two police officers.

Daniel Aselo Okito, the interior minister for the nation, has demanded that the event organizers be held accountable for failing to set a cap on the number of attendees.

Fally Ipupa claimed there was "absolute compliance with safety" standards at the concert in a Facebook message.

He added: "I am deeply disturbed and my deepest condolences to all the families. May God in his deepest mercy comfort the bereaved hearts."
