Russia celebrate their first win at a EURO since 2012 opener

Russia have registered their first win in the ongoing Euro 2020 Group A match against Finland at the Krestovsky Stadium.

Having earlier been defeated by Belgium by 3-0 in the opening game of the tournament, Cherchesov’s men knew a slip up could ruin their chances of qualifying into the knockout stage of the tournament.

It was a moment of real quality from Aleksey Miranchuk who won the game for the Russians after an intricate play when Dzyuba found space on the edge of the area. The Russian captain offloaded to the right of goal to Miranchuk who drove forward before cutting inside and curling a left-footed shot into the top left corner.

They kept pushing for the second but Dzuyka’s curler went towards the right corner, however, the Finnish goalkeeper, Hradecky did excellently to dive to his left and deny the goal from going in.

Finland rarely tested the Russian goalkeeper as they saw their first loss following their 1-0 victory over Denmark.

Russia move second behind Belgium who has a game to play against the Danes.
