Pep Guardiola has admitted that Eric Garcia will play for Barcelona next season.

The Manchester City youngster turned down a contract extension with the Premier League leaders as he seeks to join a team to enjoy first-team football.

Barcelona were leading the race to sign the race per the demand of Ronald Koeman but the Blaugranas financial constraints gave them no option than to wait for the player’s contract with City to finish.

Mikel Arteta was in talks to convince the defender to the Emirates but it was reported by the Guardian that the 20-year old agreed a five-year contract with Barcelona following talks not to renew his stay at the Etihad.

Guardiola has finally confessed that Eric Garcia will play for Barcelona next season.

"Eric Garcia is like a son. He was a guy last season that after lockdown was our best central defender. He never made a mistake and played in the quarter-final of the Champions League," Guardiola said at his press conference.

"He's going to play in Barcelona and he is not an average player. He is a top player. He was not selected in the last two games and it broke my heart.

"That is why it is difficult for all the managers when you have a squad. You cannot imagine what it means."
