Diogo Jota is the first Liverpool player to score in the Reds home top-flight matches in a thrilling 3-0 win over Leicester City.

Jurgen Klopp’s side entered the game as underdogs having a long list of senior players sidelined due to injury.

Andrew Robertson regardless of fears was started by Jurgen Klopp with James Milner starting at right-back in place of the absent Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Naby Keita, Georginio Wijnaldum and Curtis Jones fielded the midfield with Diogo Jota potentially playing the Mohamed Salah role alongside Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Wesley Fofana declared fit after being a fitness doubt partnered Jonny Evans at the back. 

Christian Fuchs continues at left-back with James Justin whiles Harvey Barnes and Marc Albrighton started in place of Dennis Praet and Luke Thomas, who both drop to the bench following the 1-0 win over Fulham.

Liverpool started on a high tempo – possessing slowly from the back to locate the front three. The Reds were awarded the first corner after Mane laid the ball off for Keita to shoot but the effort was deflected wide. Mane rose at the near post to meet the wavered ball but he flicked his effort just into the side-netting.

Liverpool forced Schmeichel into another smart save as Mane and Firmino combine before Jota got away from Fuchs and brought a good stop from the Dane down to his right.

The press by the Foxes was flattened anytime the entered the Reds half of the pitch.

Jonny Evans scored an own goal to open the scores for Liverpool in the 21-minute from a corner. The former Manchester United defender was preoccupied with Sadio Mane and held him ahead of James Milner's corner. The ball bounced off his head and flashed beyond Kasper Schmeichel.

Leicester almost responded two minutes later when Fofana embarked on a rampaging run and found Barnes. He looked up to his left and feeds Vardy, who in turn set up Barnes for the strike, but as he opens up his body the shot was sliced agonizingly wide for Leicester.

Jota doubled the advantage four minutes into half time after a brilliant Robertson assist. Curtis Jones spread the play for Andrew Robertson as Marc Albrighton committed himself to the challenge far too easily. Robertson nipped inside and found the run of Diogo Jota who glanced his header first time beyond Schmeichel having lost Fuchs.

The Reds were forced to make a change when Naby Keita went down stretching his hamstring. Neo Williams took his place - Milner moved into midfield for the Welsh to be slotted in at right-back.

Jonny Evans almost scored his second own goal for the Reds, strucking the post after Jota was released down the right. His initial shot was saved by Schmeichel, and the Portuguese retrieved the ball to cross low for another save.

Firmino struck the post twice before jumping high to direct James Milner's corner into the bottom corner.

Liverpool moved to second on the League table, behind Tottenham Hotspur on goal difference.
