Frank Lampard’s side collected a point which moved them to sixth over Spurs on the Premier League table after their 1-1 draw with Villa.

Frank Lampard did a major shake-up following their defeat at Arsenal on Saturday by bringing three at the back - Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger came in for Reece James, Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma.

Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner dropped to the bench alongside midfielder Mateo Kovacic, with Olivier Giroud, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jorginho coming in. 

Dean Smith made just one change from the 3-0 win over Palace on Boxing Day as Ezri Konsa replaced the suspended Tyrone Mings with Barkley ineligible against his parent club.

Olivier Giroud put Chelsea in front in the 34-minute after Traore left Chilwell free on the left and made it easier for the left-back to cross. His cross was waist-height for Giroud, but he stooped low and found the bottom left corner with a header.

El Ghazi levelled the scores 11 minutes into the second half from a Cash cross.

McGinn unleashed a quite brilliant effort for the top left corner which Mendy stood watching it come off the corner of post and crossbar.

The game ended one all for both sides as the result takes Villa to fifth with 26 points, one fewer than fourth-placed Manchester United. 

Chelsea are just behind them on goal difference, having played two matches more.
