Leeds United took home all the points after a crucial encounter with Carlo Ancelotti’s side at Goodison Park.

It was the first away league victory against Everton since August 1990 having failed to win any of their previous 13 trips to Goodison Park in league competition

A 79- minute strike by Raphinha made sure that Marcelo Bielsa’s side moved from 11th on 14 points, two behind Everton in sixth.

The Argentine named an unchanged team following Monday’s goalless draw with Arsenal and opted to start record-signing Rodrigo, despite his recent recovery from coronavirus.

Ancelotti made a couple of changes following Everton’s victory at Fulham last weekend as Ben Godfrey, Michael Keane and the returning Mason Holgate, who captains the side took over from injured Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman. Tom Davies returned to the side for Yerry Mina to drop to the bench.

Leeds United started radiantly after an intense play against the Everton defence when Bamford chests a ball into the path of Raphinha. He knocked it around stand-in left-back Iwobi and drove towards the box but Pickford came off his line and got caught in no-man's land.

Raphinha’s prodded shot had enough power to find the net, and Everton scrambled it clear.

Everton in the 24-minute had the ball in the visitors’ net but it was ruled offside after James Rodriguez skipped inside a defender and produced a sublime finish past Meslier from the tightest of angles.

It rained chances for the visitors but Jordan Pickford was always on the alert to keep his side in the game. Leeds in the first half had the better of the two sides, with Everton fortunate to still be in the game.

Allan in the 60-minute tried putting the Blue side on top and Leeds stood off from making a challenge. He got all the way into the area where his near-post drive was tipped behind for a corner by Meslier. Leeds twinkled toes from Raphinha with a beautiful drag back to get away from two Everton defenders after Phillips' blocked shot fell for him in the box. The build-up was sublime but the finish was found wanting, as his shot drifted wide of the far post.

The visitors after been denied a couple of hits found the ball in the net through Raphinha in the 79-minute.

Bielsa’s side worked the ball to Raphinha 20 yards from goal. he looked up to see if there was pass on but with no options to his left, he took the shot on through the legs of Godfrey and the ball beat Pickford to nestle into the bottom corner.

After three minutes of added time, the game ended on behalf of the visitors.
