Chelsea started the new Premier League campaign with a sweet victory against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex on Monday Night.

Debutants, Timo Werner, and Kai Havertz were not on the score sheet although the former RB Leipzig’s forward was intimidating anytime he surged forward.

It took 21 minutes for Timo Werner’s threat to be activated after the German won a penalty for the Blues who rarely impressed in the opening minutes.

Alzate's poor pass was poked forward by Jorginho - who lined up the spot-kick. The Italian's pass is found by Werner who races into the area, but Ryan’s save sent Werner down in the yard.

Jorginho stepped up and put the Blues in front in the 23-minute to maintain his 100 percent spot-kick conversion record for Chelsea.

Brighton almost responded three minutes later when Lamptey, who was impressive in the first half with his pace, floated a lovely cross towards Maupay but Kurt Zouma put him off as the striker’s looping header was collected by Kepa.

The home side dominated possession and nearly leveled the scores but Lallana’s thread in the penalty area was cut short by the scrambled Chelsea defense as he tried to score following an intelligent setup.

Adam Lallana bowed out of the game in the 44-minute to an injury paving way for Conolly.

The Seagulls started the second half on a brighter note dominating play with pressing towards the Chelsea defense. The deployed long balls effectively located the required spaces to heap the home side on.

Lamptey held the ball up well on the right of the area before cutting it back for his teammate waiting just outside the area.

Trossard initiated a wonderful curler from range that beat Kepa before nestling in the far left corner.

Reece James put the visitors ahead in less than two minutes after smashing his shot into the top corner of the Brighton net.  It was his first goal in 25 Premier League appearances for Chelsea.

The Blues took over possession and settled quite well after regaining their lead.

10 minutes later, Kurt Zouma was awarded a goal after trotting away for James delivered a corner from the right. Webster stuck a toe out to divert it away from Ryan's position and into the back of the net with the goalkeeper left rooted and unable to scramble across to keep out.

In the end, it was Brighton 1, Chelsea 3.
