Danny Ings is after the Premier League golden boot as he took his tally to 18, one short of Vardy’s 19 on Sunday.

The Englishman scored twice as Southampton sealed a 3-1 victory at Vicarage Road to increase Watford's relegation worries. He is the first Southampton player to reach double figures (10) for goals away from home in a single Premier League season since Matt Le Tissier in 1993/94 (12).

The Saints on Thursday lost against Arsenal at St. Mary’s Stadium by 2-0 and redeemed their loss after the former Burnley and Liverpool forward put his side in front on 16 minutes, firing into the bottom-right corner from 20 yards.

Ings then made the score 2-0 on 70 minutes, intercepting Ben Foster's throw before finishing low past the Watford goalkeeper.

Jan Bednarek's own goal with 11 minutes remaining gave Watford hope of a comeback but that was dashed three minutes later when James Ward-Prowse curled in a superb free-kick.

Southampton's eighth away victory of the season moves them to 13th place on 40 points. The victory is the most they’ve ever won away from home in a top-flight campaign.

A run of four matches without a win leaves Watford 16th on 28 points, one point clear of the bottom three.
