Roberto Firmino celebrate his winner against Wolves

Roberto Firmino's late goal gave league leaders Liverpool a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers as the Reds made it 40 Premier League matches unbeaten.

Nuno Espirito Santo and Jurgen Klopp both named unchanged teams for this evening's game as Fabinho remained on the Liverpool substitutes' bench, where he was joined by Joel Matip.

Willy Boly was on the Wolves bench for the first time since October while Diogo Jota was also back in the squad for the time since the turn of the year.

Jordan Henderson put Liverpool ahead after eight minutes, scoring from Trent Alexander-Arnold's corner.

The Liverpool captain rose completely unmarked, and after a brief VAR inquest to see if the ball brushed the arm of Henderson, the goal was allowed to stand.

Mane's ended his night after struggling to move in the 32-minute. Takumi Minamino took his place and the game continued.

Rui Patricio denied Mohamed Salah twice early in the second half before Raul Jimenez equalised on 51 minutes, deftly heading in Adama Traore's right-wing cross.

Adama Traore had a rather sluggish start to this second period but he escaped Andy Robertson far too easily down the right and pinpointed a cross onto the head of Raul Jimenez beyond Alisson.

Traore forced a save from Alisson before the Liverpool goalkeeper also denied Jimenez.

Firmino provided the decisive moment with six minutes remaining, firing into the top-left corner from 12 yards out for his eighth goal of the season, which have all come away from home.

Quick feet from Salah as he kept the ball alive before Henderson's pass released Firmino. The Brazilian caught inside Coady and lifted his shot beyond Patricio for his seventh league goal of the season.

Liverpool's 14th consecutive win puts them 16 points clear of Manchester City, having played a match fewer.

Wolves are seventh with 34 points.
