Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Engages Financial Institutions on Climate Banking.

Financial Institutions have been tasked to support the call for climate change reduction with their services in the country.

At a two days workshop organised by Ghana's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the personnel from the financial institutions were made to understand the implications of climate change and the risk involved when it comes to giving out loan facilities to businesses and their clients.

They were taken through the risk involved in financing businesses that can easily be destroyed by climate, the ones that have negative effects on the climate and on how to access funds outside the country to support the greenhouse initiatives.

Acting Director of Climate Vulnerability and Adaptation at EPA, Mr Antwi Boasiko Amoah said being the financiers of most businesses, the banks should factor in some climate issues when customers submit offers for loan applications.

One of the facilitators from the Center for Climate Change and Sustainable Development at the University of Ghana Dr Bob Manteaw emphasised awareness creation on climate change and advised Ghanaians to change some of their lifestyles which contributes to impacting the climate by reducing the use of fossil fuels and using other alternatives like gas, solar power and the likes.
