Energy Levy Brouhaha: Ejisu NPP Activist Drops Another Bombshell On NDC Govt; Says NDC Is A Scam
According to him, the present government has has deceived Ghanaians to win political powwe, tagging the government as a scam.

Political Analyst of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ejisu Constituency of the Ashanti Region, Mr Solomon Osei-Mainoo, popularly Known as
Abi Solo”, has launched a scathing attack on the government of the National Democratic Congress, labelling the current ruling administration led by President John Dramani Mahama as the biggest political scam in the history of the Republic of Ghana.
According to him, the present government has has deceived Ghanaians to win political powwe, tagging the government as a scam.
His comment follows the passage of Energy Sector Levies (Amendment Bill), by Parliament on Tuesday June 3, 2025, despite a walkout of Minority Caucus in Parliament.
But in a press statement copied to Soireenews. com, the NPP young outspoken politician expressed disappointment in the government of President John Dramani Mahama for fighting“E-Levy” to imposing a harsher “energy levy.
As a concerned Ghanaian, he stresed that he who, is feeling the full weight of government policies that have become unbearable.
He pointed out that he finds it important to address a matter of national significance—one that exposes the gross hypocrisy and insensitivity of the current NDC government under President Dramani Mahama.
It is no secret that, he stated that while in opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) capitalized on the frustrations of Ghanaians to condemn and resist the Electronic Levy (E-Levy) introduced by the previous administration.
According to him, the NDC called it daylight robbery, an unnecessary burden, and a tax on hardship.
He indicated that "Many of us listened, adding that many believed them. But today, what has changed?
"Ironically, he said the same NDC, now in government, has turned around to implement an even more draconian policy in the name of the Energy Levy, another “E-levy” that is far worse in its impact.
"Unlike the previous E-Levy, whose benefits were clear and whose implementation was met with cautious adjustments, the Energy Levy has become a thorn in our flesh.
He mentioned that the policy affects every Ghanaian household, small businesses, and struggling industries—without any sign of relief.
How can a government that once claimed to be the voice of the people now remain silent while our energy bills skyrocket?
How can they justify such a levy when Ghanaians are still recovering from economic shocks?
We were promised better. We were told there would be alternatives. Yet today, we are paying more for electricity, fuel, and the basic cost of living—all because of a policy that was never properly debated, never transparently explained, and is now wreaking havoc across the country.
I, Hon. Solomon Osei-Mainoo , popularly known as “ Abi Solo, will not sit quietly while my people suffer.
He called on the NDC government to immediately review this harsh Energy Levy, stressing that " I urge all well-meaning Ghanaians to rise and demand accountability."
"Let us not be deceived by political rhetoric. The truth is simple: the same NDC that condemned a levy in opposition has imposed a worse one in power. Enough is enough," he concluded.
